Pupils' achievements recognised at Speech Day and Prizegiving
Pupils’ achievements have been honoured at Belmont Grosvenor School’s annual Speech Day and Prize Giving Ceremony.
Guests gathered at the Harrogate independent prep school for the event, held in a marquee in the school’s 20-acres of grounds at Swarcliffe Hall, Birstwtih.
It was the first Speech Day for Headmistress Mrs Sophia Ashworth Jones, who took the helm at the co-educational school at the start of the academic year.
Praising pupils for their academic, sporting, musical, dramatic and personal achievements, Mrs Ashworth Jones told assembled guests that one of Belmont Grosvenor’s greatest strengths was “managing the pace and tempo and all round health of young learners, encouraging them to be independent, truth seekers, interrogators and to be authentic and accountable as they grow”.
Encouraging children to be kind to themselves is vital, said Mrs Ashworth Jones, and “we feel that the best chance of learning that is here – BGS is the secret, you found it before me. Where the magic of the outside is replicated by something equally magical in the walls.
“Here is where your children are encouraged to learn patience, to have a go, and take a risk, to make things right when the day hasn’t gone as planned and to be truthful and fair with themselves,” she said.
Prizes were awarded throughout the afternoon to pupils for a wide range of achievements – from Maths, Science, History and Sport, to Kindness and Outstanding Effort!
