Parents, staff and friends from Belmont Grosvenor School, including guests from Birstwith village gathered at St James’s Church on Wednesday evening for a Music Recital organised by the school’s PTA committee. Following at champagne reception at Swarcliffe Hall, the audience were treated to some very special music performed and played by the school’s Director of Music, Emma Stretch and six the peripatetic music staff.
Amongst the various pieces, performances included a Handel piano duet from Janet Frazer & Sarah Paynes, a guitar solo from Daniel Webster by Tárrege, an aria from Mozart’s Don Giovanni by soprano solo Marika Van Der Meer, trumpet solo by Rodrigo from Mark Sidwell and a Beethoven trio from Janet Frazer, Emma Stretch & Fiona Mayo.
A special DVD recording of the event was made to be used within the school. All pupils will be given the opportunity to watch, listen and gain inspiration from the occasion.
The schools Head Teacher Jane Merriman said “A very large number of children at Belmont Grosvenor School have extra music lessons each week and benefit from the enthusiasm and talent of the peripatetic staff. This legacy is a tremendous testimony to the Music Department and instils a love of music which is endemic throughout the school”.
A total of £500 was raised for the school’s Music Department in order to buy & replace equipment. This will widen the opportunity for the children at Belmont Grosvenor School to access and try out various musical instruments. The PTA will also be donating £100 to St James’s Church, Birstwith – a wonderful setting for such beautiful music.
