NEW APPOINTMENT AT NORTH YORKSHIRE PREPARATORY SCHOOL
12th January 2009
A North Yorkshire school has appointed a new deputy headteacher – and Rebecca Riddell can’t wait to start her new role.
Rebecca, who lives in Ripon, starts work at Belmont Grosvenor School, on the outskirts of Harrogate, at the beginning of the new term in January.
Her younger sister is a former pupil and Rebecca is looking forward to beginning her role at the independent prep school, based at Swarcliffe Hall, Birstwith.
“This is the school that I wanted to work at – and I really am delighted to have been appointed deputy headteacher at Belmont Grosvenor.
“It is a wonderful school with such a positive, happy atmosphere. Everybody is so enthusiastic about the school, the staff, parents and pupils, and the feeling of energy is infectious.
“Belmont Grosvenor has a fantastic setting and the facilities are great. I am looking forward to working here and getting to know everyone,” she said.
Cambridge University educated Rebecca began her teaching career at the Dragon School in Oxford, before moving to London where she worked in two prep schools in the city before deciding she wanted to return to North Yorkshire where her parents live.
One of four daughters, Rebecca’s youngest sister was a former pupil at Belmont Birklands School, which merged with Grosvenor House School to form Belmont Grosvenor School.
As deputy headteacher at Belmont Grosvenor, a co-educational prep school for children up to the age of 11 , Rebecca will be Head of English and a Year 4 class teacher. She will be working alongside current Headteacher Jane Merriman, and Assistant Headteacher Pam Dight.
Mrs Merriman, who has been Headteacher at Belmont Grosvenor for the past four years, said: “We are absolutely delighted Rebecca will be joining us in January.
“She brings with her a wealth of experience from her previous schools and will be a real asset to the school, helping enhance the already excellent standard of education and extra-curricular opportunities on offer to pupils at Belmont Grosvenor School,” she said.
“The entire school community is looking forward to welcoming Rebecca to this successful school,” she added.
Belmont Grosvenor School, which celebrated its centenary last year (2008) is set in 20 acres and boasts an outdoor classroom, amphitheatre, swimming pool and fully-equipped ICT suite amongst its facilities.
Pupils at the school regularly achieve above national standards in Key Stage 1 and 2 tests and are thoroughly prepared for secondary schools, where academic, music and art scholarships are common.
Belmont Grosvenor School is holding an open day on Thursday 22 January 2009 between 10.45 and 11.45am. For more information contact the school on 01423 771029 or visit the website on www.belmontgrosvenor.co.uk
