Hockey Match Reports 2011
U11 & U9 Netball & Hockey v Terrington
On Saturday 21st January we played Terrington. Our first match was netball. We had first centre pass and within a couple of minutes Samantha had scored for us. We spread out well across the court and could pass more easily and quickly and score more goals. Alicia played really well, making a great jump catch and Lucy and Samantha shot really well. The final score was 12 – 0 to Belmont Grosvenor and well done to the whole team for playing well. Next we played Terrington at hockey. Terrington got the first push back and we went into attack and took the ball off them and ran down the pitch but unfortunately Terrinton’s goal keeper stopped it and kicked it out. But we kept on trying and we suddenly had a pass from the D and I ran down the pitch and passed to Sophie and Sophie scored. Terrington scored in the second half, but we kept on trying. Minnie was good in defence even after she had been hurt. The final score was 1 – 1, and the whole team played really well.

On Saturday 21st January the U9s played netball against Terrington at home. Belmont had an excellent start, scoring our first goal within the first 2 minutes. When Terrington tried to equalise our early lead, our players worked together well, intercepting and passing the ball to get it down to our end again. A further 10 goals were scored by Belmont. The final score was 11-0 to us. The team worked extremely well together. Special mention should go to Caitlin who played well in defense making sure we did not concede a goal, Anouk for her efforts in goal defense and finally Sophie Huber for her all round team skills. We then changed into hockey players which was not that easy as the weather was not that good and we were getting cold. We managed to score the first goal but Terrington came back at us and scored an equalizer. The final whistle went as we were attacking the Terrington goal. The match was a draw. Well done to all the girls who played.

Then they scored again. Then it was half time and Mrs Furniss told us what to do next and we did as we were told and then it was time to play again. We got first centre pass and we got the ball down to our D. We tried to score but the ball went off side and Cundall got the ball back, down to their D and scored again. The final score was 7-0 to Cundall. Special mentions go to Emily Belcher and Anouk Fawcett for playing in the U10 game.

On Wednesday the 23rd November we played a hockey match against Cundall Manor. We started well with Grace intercepting the ball and dribbling it up the pitch, but unfortunately the ball was tackled off her and they scored 1 goal. After that, Cundall spaced out and were about to get a goal, unfortunately for them the ball bounced off one of their feet and we got the ball. It was then half time. The half time score was 5-0 to Cundall. In the second half we got the center ball and passed it up the pitch we were just about to score a goal when somebody came up from Cundall and managed to get the ball and they scored. We defended well, but Cundall scored twice altogether making the full time score Cundall 7 Belmont 0. Special mentions go to Rebecca Troy for defending well and the whole team for working together. We definitely improved as the game progressed.

U11 Netball / Hockey v Cundall Manor
On Wednesday 23rd November we played Cundall Manor at Netball. There was no score in the first quarter and it was a close game with many attempts at goal. Second quarter Lucy and Samantha scored a goal each and in the third quarter Cundall scored. We scored 3 more goals in the final quarter and won 5 goals to 1. Sophie intercepted really well and as the game went on our passing and speed really improved. After the netball match, we also played hockey against Cundall. Cundall scored quickly at the start of the game and BGS withstood a lot of pressure from Cundall. Sophie scored for us in the second half and we really pressurised Cundall and looked like we could score again. Final score 1 : 1. Everyone worked really hard to try and score again, and Minnie was excellent in defence.

U11 Hockey v Giggleswick
On Saturday 5th November we played Giggleswick at Hockey U11. We had 1st pushback, we started off not very well spaced out. Giggleswick had an early shot at goal but luckily it was from outside the D, so it didn‘t count. We had many shots at goal but unfortunately we didn‘t look up before we shot, so they didn‘t go in. Anouk did really well playing against older players. It was such a close game and it is a good result against Giggleswick, the final score was 0:0. Special mentions to Anouk Fawcett and the whole team for playing really well.
