Introduction to Forest Schools

Forest School and Magic Tree Nursery

Here at Magic Tree Nursery we are introducing the children to Forest School, within the grounds of Belmont Grosvenor School.

The Forest School experience is an inspirational process that offers children rich opportunities to promote their well-being and confidence in a natural environment. During the Forest School Sessions, which occur throughout the week, the children are encouraged to develop their own ideas, make decisions, solve problems and take safe risks.

Forest School also aim to help children to develop their self-awareness, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation, empathy, good social and communication skills, independence and a positive mental attitude, self esteem and confidence.

The three guiding principles of Forest School are to:

• capitalise on the outdoors as a real context for learning,

• use the outdoor environment as a rich source of natural materials and resources for learning;

• build upon the way young children learn through being active, gaining first-hand experiences using all their senses, and developing their natural curiosity
