U11's at Terrington 7's tournament

On Wednesday 24th February, despite the snow at home BGS U-11s rugby team played in a 7's tournament at Terrington Hall School, York. The team was a man down with Freddie Wright unable to play due to illness. There were 16 teams in total. Our first pool game was against Birkdale School. Despite some good tackling and a good try by Robert we were well beaten, 3 tries to one. The next pool match was against Newcastle. Having led one try to nil for most of the game, scored by Hugo, Newcastle managed to equalise from a close scrum, the match drawn 7:7. The last pool match was against Woodleigh. BGS put in a well drilled performance to beat Woodleigh by 3 tries, (Tom - 1 Hugo - 2) to one. BGS progressed into the plate knock out competition after this. We took on a strong St Martin's Ampleforth team. There was some spirited tackling and another good try from Hugo but in the end Ampleforth were too strong for us and we lost 3 tries to one. Special mentions go to Ben Smith-Price. Well done to the rest of the team.

U11 Rugby v Lyndhurst

On the 10th of February 2010 the under 11s rugby team played Lyndhurst School from Pocklington. We started off well defending our try line but unfortunately they made a great breakthrough and scored a good try. I managed to catch a great pass from Hugo to score, but by half time the score was 6-1 to Lyndhurst. After having a good talk from Mr Andrews we then played better in the second half, scoring our second try by Edward to make the final score 9-2 to Lyndhurst. (Over tea one of the boys told me that their team had been undefeated for the last two seasons!) Well played everyone and thank you to all our supporters who braved the snow storms !!!

U11 rugby 7’s at Giggleswick

On the 2nd December 2009 the U11’s were invited to the Giggleswick Christmas rugby sevens. We played 4 matches in all.

The first match was against Rossall who were very strong. We lost by 3 tries 0

Then we played Sedbergh who were very good at passing right along their back line which resulted in them scoring 3 tries against us. The highlight of the match for us was a half pitch sprint down the left wing by Robert, resulting in our only try! The result was a loss 1 try- 3

The third match against Elleray was a little easier. We really enjoyed scoring 6 tries and felt in total control! We won 6 tries-0 The final match was against a closely matched team, Moorlands. They, however, had an incredibly fast centre who ran rings around us to score 2 tries!

IT WAS SO COLD! We were very glad to get into the showers and then into tea. Hopefully we have learnt a lot from the experience, especially from Sedbergh who showed us the value of passing along the back line. WELL PLAYED EVERYONE!

BGS U11's vs Bronte House

On Wednesday 11th November the under 11s played Bronte House at rugby. Bronte House were, as we expected, a very well drilled and skilful team and they were all much bigger than us!! They started with an early try, which woke us up. After that our defence improved and we did some very good tackles to stop them scoring even more tries than they could have. The highlight of the match for us was a try by Ben from a pass out to the wing from me. Ben managed to get the ball over the line despite four Bronte House players trying to stop him! Final score: 5 tries - 1 to Bronte House Well played everyone!
