U11 Football Vs Moorlands.
On the 27th of January the under 11s played Moorlands school in Headingly at football. Moorlands only chose one ‘A’ team so we played one match of 8-a-side. U11 Football v Richmond House Wednesday 7th October 2009
It was a group style tournament, and in our group we had the other schools of Richmond House (A), Frobelian and Highfield. The first game that we played was against Highfield. This was a really close game in which we came out on top by winning 2-1.
It was a very good start to the tournament and gave the whole team a confidence boost. The second game was against Richmond House (A) team. After another hard fought game which was even closer than the first game we won again. Both teams played some really good football and the difference was only 1 goal. With Robert keeping a clean sheet with
some very good saves to help us win the second game in a row! To guarantee winning the group and getting to the semi finals we needed to win our last game. With this being the third straight game that the boys had played some were starting to get tired. Fortunately we took an early lead and then quickly scored two more goals! By half time it was 3-0. With this score it allowed Mr Andrews to make lots of substitutions so that all boys were rested for the next round. In the second half concentration was low to start and they got a goal back, but we responded again and scored. The final score being 4-1.
Through to the semi final after finishing top of our group was a great feeling for the whole team. We were to be playing against Westville School. Another really close game followed. Our boys running their socks off playing in the fourth straight game of the tournament. We took a deserved lead but couldn’t hold it for long until they equalised. Tom Lyons scored the winning goal with not long left on the clock. We hung on for the last few minutes to get through to the final!!!
Before the final we managed to have a few minutes rest as it was to be the 5th straight game!! We were up against Highfield. The first half was rather one sided and Highfield were on top throughout the half finishing 2-0. It could have been more but for some good last ditch defending and goalkeeping from Robert, Ed and Hugo. For the second half we started so well creating lots of goal scoring chances. Unfortunately Highfields’ defence was very strong and they managed to get blocks in on our shots or the ball went just wide. We all, by the end of the game felt that we deserved to get at least one goal back if not two, as we were the better side in the second half. The game finished 2-0. Although we lost we played some very good football throughout the tournament and are very pleased to have played in the final. All the players received medals for their hard work and success. Special mentions go to the whole team for an extremely good tournament in which we played very well! Hopefully we can go one step better in the next tournament!!
U9 Football v Brackenfield Friday 2nd October
We lost the toss and had kick off, we kicked off but unfortunately they scored an early goal. Then they scored again, but we got some good passing in and then I did a long pass to Elliot Brewins who managed to slip it through the goalie’s legs. Then Euan Brennan scored the equaliser, by half time. The second half was tough and one of their players scored a hat trick taking the score to 3-2 to them. George Ward kicked it down the wing to me and I tried to keep it but went out for a throw in they got another goal. Unfortunately we gave away a penalty and they scored the wining goal. The final whistle went. The final score was 5-2 to Brackenfield. We played well but they were to tough.
Special mentions go to the whole team for playing their best. George Beeley
U11 Football v Highfield Wednesday 30th September
Belmont Grosvenor A’s football team played Highfield School. It was a lovely sunny day and we kicked off. After some good passing Highfield scored a good goal past Robert Wilmore. Soon after, I scored an equaliser and then the referee blew his whistle for half time. Ollie’s mum, Mrs White gave a good team talk so we started the second half with a lot of determination. Ed Scullion and Ryan Stanga were brilliant in defence. Freddie Wright scored the winning goal and after that Ollie White had a great shot saved by the keeper. The full time score was 2 – 1 to BGS. Special mentions go to Ryan Stanga for his first game and excellent defence and Robert Wilmore was very good in goal.
