PECO XC

Euan Brannan, 6M, won the final race of the PECO XC league last Sunday .This is a league for all Leeds area affiliated running/athletics clubs. The best 4 results count towards the championship positions. Euan won all 4 races that he competed in, making him the 2012 U11 champion. He will be awarded with his trophy on 1st April. What an incredible achievement—well done Euan on a fantastic result!

BGS Cross Country

Yesterday saw the return of our annual BGS U11 Cross Country. Fancy dress costumes were swapped for trainers and running vests as the children warmed up mentally and physically for their 2km races! The girls ran first and did a sterling job, coming a respectable 3rd overall out of 7 teams. Josh Fuller (old boy) kindly agreed to be our ‘hare’ but by the time he had to run the boys’ race he was clearly struggling to keep ahead of Euan Brennan who unbelievably managed to out-run him! Well done Euan on a fantastic run and an excellent 1st place finishing time. The boys all did remarkably well and secured an overall first place as a team. All our children did us proud and the results below are out of a total of 40 boys and 40 girls, with the times provided for the first 20 runners in each race.

National Cross Counttry championships - Euan Brennan

It was a really good afternoon at Parliament Hill and fortunately sunny. Euan took part in the boys U13 race. He was probably one of the youngest runners , only being 16 days past his 11th birthday (minimum age for entry was 11). He came 226th out of 373 runners, running 3k in 13.06 mins It was a huge mass start & in fact we couldn't see Euan until near the end. Approximately 100 runners went over the finish line in 40 seconds intervals! A great experience & he hopes to be able to race again next year.

U11 Cross Country at Giggleswick

On Wednesday 5 boys and 5 girls from BGS took part in the U11 cross country at iggleswick in cold and muddy conditions! The results are as follows:

Boys Race Results

Euan Brennan 6th, Jim Dacombe 14th, Kit Keith 28th, Callum Young 48th, William Wade 53rd Ruby Johnson 94th

Girls Race Results

Evelyn Wright 12th  Emily Belcher 22nd, Jessica Jones 57th, Martha Dacombe 67th, Ruby Johnson 94th

There were approximately 100 boys and 100 girls in the races so our children did really well, especially considering they are from Y3-6 and this was an U11 (Y6) event. Well done to Ruby for finishing the race despite falling over and hurting herself.

 St Martins Ampleforth, Cross Country
