Eco Club
Eco Club is open to prep children and meets each week from 4 -4.55 p.m. There is also a morning break meeting for urgent matters and updating our progress. The children have opportunities to explore our own rich environment, plan to maintain and make improvements to it and consider our responsibilities and actions to world environmental issues, as members of the National Eco Schools. We are working towards achieving green flag status.
The group learn through games, outside speakers, first hand experience at school or further afield and aim to develop a whole school responsibility to our local and global environment. The direction and interests of the group will largely be determined by its members. Children take responsibility for reducing litter, energy waste and water waste with patrols by litter cops, energy busters and water patrol.
Each year group has representatives who are part of the Action Team. The team is made up from Head, staff (from all areas of school), financial advisor, caretaking, cleaning and catering staff as well as parent and community representatives. It meets once a term to steer, develop, support and monitor projects within the school. The group is child initiated, adults are there to support, make the decisions about how to implement their ideas and advise. They Action Team has its own secretary and treasurer, both of whom are children. Assemblies are put together to educate members of the school and explain action and competitions are frequently run to encourage good practice.
Membership of Eco Schools has also developed IT skills as children use the site and add their own blogs.
