SCUBA DIVING

The Scuba Diving classes got underway last Tuesday and have been a huge hit with all those who have enrolled. Lily Keith in Y4 writes:

"Scuba diving is great fun. I really enjoy it I find it very interesting. I think that other people should join scuba diving. It is very fun because you get to play Frisbee under water and do fun activities too. I am learning the signals under water. We have to wear a big tank a mask and flippers. The tank holds the air under water so we can breath. It is not scary."

Freedom Divers have been teaching people to Scuba – Dive for nearly ten years. They pride themselves on quality, attention to detail and above all providing a safe and enjoyable environment for their clients. Over this time they have formed successful links with several schools in the Yorkshire area providing Scuba Diving courses for their pupils, staff and parents. They are able to conduct courses for children from the age of 8 upwards.

Now our introductory sessions are complete Scuba will be offered as an activity at BGS for children, staff and parents. The next step for children from 8-12 years would be a ‘Seal Team’ programme. This pool based programme would consist of 5 pool sessions. Participants receive a log book and DVD with a work book for them to complete. Once successful they are certified as PADI Seal Team members. The cost for this course would be around £195

From 12 years upwards the PADI Open Water Course is the next step. This is a much more involved programme of learning which involves 5 modules of theory, 5 modules of pool work and 4 Open Water dives. The rating of PADI Open Water diver is an internationally recognised diving qualification which enables the diver to dive with a ‘buddy’, without an instructor. It’s a little like passing your driving test.

The charge for this course would be around £345, which, totals about 40 hours of instruction. The course price includes all instruction, course materials and diving equipment for use on the course.
